If there is a defining characteristic of the Greatest Generation, it is selfless sacrifice in a time of crisis. So many of that generation gave, then gave some more. Men and women in uniform. Parents. A Nation on the home front. Though she entered service toward the end of the war, Harriett Taylor, in the hospital corps, represents that giving spirit.
