  For those of us who never served, as Patriotic as we may feel, even in our deepest 4th of July fervor, we can never truly understand what the stars and stripes mean to those who've shed their blood to defend it. To spread it's message of freedom. And we've never witnessed friends die beside us in that same endeavor. How valuable to listen, and learn, from those who have done both. And how valuable still, to hear the stories of those who did this when it wasn't popular, and there were no parades.
