Bio
- Name: Don Beary
- Age: 77yrs
- Service Period: Vietnam
- Branch: US Marines
- Introduction:
"In those days what it meant was we were trying to stop the spread of communism. And I think by being in the Marine Corps and helping out in Vietnam that we were doing that. I don't like the way it ended. I think that we did what we were supposed to do, we were trained well, and...it was a political war, and I'm not sure who wins a political war."
– Don Beary
How many Vietnam veterans have echoed the same sentiments? The United States military...highly trained, capable, the best in the world (then and now), yet to a man, Vietnam veterans will tell you the U.S. military did not lose the Vietnam War. U.S. politicians lost the war. In spite of this fact, every branch of service - the United States Marine Corps represented here - fought valiantly to give the South Vietnamese a chance at freedom. Men, and women, from all over this great land took part in that effort. This is an Iowan's story.
This is: "Beary, a service story".
