Much is recorded about WWII, the battles, the players, the most well-known events. One lesser known story surrounds the end of WWII and how you finish the work in Europe and the Pacific when so many are coming home. Don Beets took part in the answer to that question, serving as a replacement...one of thousands of GI's sent to "Replacement Depots" in the Pacific, where the various branches of the US armed forces could resupply the manpower needed for tasks such as the occupation of Japan. As with all of the Greatest Generation, Don served a vital role, which continued after being called back during the Korean War conflict.
This is: "Beets, a service story".
