One of the enduring - and endearing - qualities of the WWII generation is the number that volunteered for service to the country. Yes, volunteering often meant you could select the service you preferred, but there was an understanding that the job...the cause of freedom...had to be done. Fought for. Won. One story Mr. Papp shared that was not included in his Feature, is learning of President Roosevelt's death while flying as crew on a PBY Catalina in the Pacific. Upon hearing the news, he related the information to the crew, then stated "we just continued our mission because we had a job to do". Exactly. Here is another example from the Greatest Generation of getting the job done. Arguably the most important job the world has ever offered.
This is: "Papp, a service story".
