- Age: 75yrs
- Service Period: Vietnam

- Introduction:
"I've tried to imagine what my life would have been like if I hadn't gone to Vietnam, and I really can't. I think it's made a tremendous difference in my personality, in my sense of morality, and ethics. So it's made a huge difference for me."
– Gary Derigne
Of the vast majority of the US population who never served, few of us can imagine the existence of living and fighting in a war zone. There's a hundred opportunities for misery, even outside combat (the worst misery of all) and it is described very well in this story. Gary served with the 12th Regiment of the 1st CAV Division in 1969. His is a gripping tale of small unit, jungle hacking warfare, and commemorates his companion who received the Medal of Honor, and Gary's own wounding in action.
This is: "Derigne, a service story".
