- Introduction:
"Well, I think that it's something that young people should bear in mind about all the people who have served in any conflict that our Country has had. And that is that there are a lot of people who put their own personal safety at risk to fight for our way of life, which includes freedom, and we should always remember that freedom isn't free, and we should cherish it and do what needs to be done to protect it not just for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren as well."
– Jim Kluender
To put our own personal safety at risk. That's a fairly easy thought sitting in the comfort of our every day life, but takes on a serious meaning in light of those who've actually gone into harms way to defend freedom and provide freedom for others. It reminds of the very true statement, "Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). So many who have returned from war have stated that the true heroes are those who did not return. There's no arguing that. For all who did return, how strong are our feelings about their sacrifice and personal risk to defend freedom and provide it to others? Stories of lives given in service to Country never get old.
This is: "Kluender, a service story".
