- Name: Larry Ralston
- Age: 98yrs
- Service Period: WWII
- Branch: US Army
- Introduction:
"I don't know any country I'd rather live in than America, and I'd rather protect something that I love, and want to be there than something I didn't. And if that's what the government needed, and I needed to do it, I'd have to sacrifice my life for it, because many many many boys were sacrificing their life, and they did. So, I sort of expected it and would have paid my price..."
– Larry Ralston
Dating back to 18th century militia units, the US 29th Infantry Division served valiantly in both WWI and WWII, including storming the beaches at Normandy on D-Day. To hear veteran Larry Ralston's emotion as he describes the rows of white crosses spread across the dunes above the beaches at Normandy brings home the enormous sacrifice of our men and women in WWII. The recurring theme of self-sacrifice, and yes, the willingness to self-sacrifice in WWII continues to echo as we witness the closing years of the Greatest Generation. Let us not forget who came before, and what they did for all of us. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.
This is: "Ralston, a service story".
