Israel remains one of America's strongest and important allies in the Middle East. But few know that armed conflict between the two Nations was a real possibility in 1967 - when the USS Liberty, an American intelligence gathering ship, was attacked by Israeli air and sea forces during the 6 Day War. American war planes were launched for the Liberty's defense...and were called back before arriving on scene. Israel claimed it was mistaken identity. Two governments...same (public) story. But those on the USS Liberty, and others who authored books and reports on the incident tell a different story. In the end...34 Americans lay dead, many more wounded, and for over 50 years now, neither government has changed their story.
This is: "Slavens, a service story".
