"Oh, they put some hurt on you”.
– Lawrence Diggs
Harsh training to create a United States Marine is one thing. Harsh training to try and keep you from becoming a United States Marine is altogether different. But that is exactly what the first black Marines - the Montford Point Marines of WWII - experienced when seeking to become part of this historical US fighting force. Much like the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII, these Marines fought on two fronts, the enemy abroad, and racial segregation at home. That fact makes the accomplishments and determination of both these groups all the more impressive, and beckons our thanks.
This is: "Diggs, a service story".
