Bio
- Name: Mabel Johnson
- Age: 104yrs.
- Service Period: WWII
- Branch: US Coast Guard
- Introduction:
"...the ones that should have been honored were those men and women who went across...so many died for our country."
– Mabel Johnson
At one point in her Feature, Mabel states, "But then I was thinking of all these soldiers that gave their lives, and I was thinking, well, all I did was sit in an office...". How typical of, and yet another reason we rightfully refer to them as "The Greatest Generation". Though each man and woman knew their role was important to the war effort and eventual victory, most will always point to someone else, who, in their opinion, did more. Someone who 'truly sacrificed'. This. This is why we love that generation. And this repeated sentiment provides a lasting example of humility, service, and, preferring others above oneself. Virtues sorely needed in our world today. Reminds one of Philippians 2:3 from the Bible - "Rather, in humility value others above yourselves".
This is: "Johnson, a service story".
