"90% of the guys that came through the Harlingen Air Base were shipped to the 8th Air Force in Europe. Basically, I never went overseas because at the very time that I was in, I was the champion boxer on our air base, and Colonel Morgan kept me there, restricted to the base. I was an entertainer, and he kept me there for the entertainment of fighting."

There are many unique stories at Patriot Features, and this is certainly one of them. Combining the Jewish service story of US soldiers in WWII with that war's version or "Rocky", Mike Katzman experienced both persecution as a Jew, and exultation as a prize-fighting boxer during his time in the US Army. The gritty nature of both those stories may well explain why Mike was 102 years old at the time of his filming. Learning to overcome, fighting through adversity, and persevering when the hits just kept coming mark the life of another of 'The Greatest Generation'.
This is: "Katzman, a service story".
