Bio
- Name: Stan Cherrie
- Age: 81yrs
- Service Period: Vietnam / Gulf War
- Branch: US Army
- Introduction:
"I was fortunate...a lot of people say 'fortunate for combat, yeah, just look at you'. But, if you're in the Army, you're in the Army to deploy and fight and whatever, and I got to do that. Even if they didn't give you medals or whatever, and if they paid me enough to feed my family, give me a place to live, I'd do it again in a heartbeat."
– Stan Cherrie
Is there anything more powerful than gratitude? How about perspective? These two qualities and character traits certainly frame the life of Brigadier General (Ret) Stan Cherrie. Not one, but two tours in Vietnam (the second of which cost him a foot and much of his right hand) the Gulf War, and a 34 year career in the US Army...and he would do it all again, in a heartbeat. That is gratitude. For a Country, for the opportunity to serve, for purpose and making a difference. That is perspective, that setbacks and hard realities do not have to dictate our future, and fighting for a cause greater than ourselves is worth the sacrifices we make.
This is: "Cherrie, a service story".
