It is estimated that more than 10,000 Navy hospital corpsmen served with Marines during Vietnam. Of those, 645 were killed in action and more than 3,300 wounded. A combat medic in the Vietnam War treated the wounded who would soon receive a Purple Heart for their injuries. Many would receive the honored decoration themselves. Here is the story of one medic, "Doc" as they were commonly called, seriously wounded while working to save the life of one of his men. Yet another remarkable story, made more so by appearing, in action, in a famous Vietnam War photo printed in Life and Time magazines.
This is: "Knox, a service story".
